Pre-Trip Inspection

Vehicles undergo a pre-trip inspection.

Engine bay
Check the following:

  • All fluid levels
    • Engine oil
    • Engine coolant
    • Power steering fluid
    • Window washer fluids
    • Brake fluid
    • Clutch fluid (if applicable)
  • Air cleaner
  • All multi-groove and v-belts
  • All radiator hoses (hose clamps, leaks and chafing)
  • Radiator for grass, mud and chafing
  • Radiator cap and fan
  • Battery (water levels (if applicable), charging system/ voltage and terminals)
  • All electrical wiring looms for damage
  • All vacuum hoses
  • Run engine and check for pulley, bearing and any other strange noises

Under car
Check the following:

  • All fluid levels:
    • Automatic transmission fluid (if applicable)
    • Manual transmission oil (if applicable)
    • Transaxle oil
    • Differential oil (front and rear)
  • Engine and gearbox mountings
  • Prop shaft and grease universals
  • Grease all nipples where necessary
  • Front and rear diffs for play, side shaft wear and leaks
  • Front and rear diff breather pipes, vacuum pipes
  • Front diff cv-joint boots
  • Coil and leaf springs
  • Front, rear shocks and mountings
  • All U-bolts
  • All other suspension bushes, fasteners, stabilizer bars and split pins
  • 4×4 and ABS wiring looms
  • Steering components for excessive play and wear
  • Fuel tanks, lines and pipes for leaks
  • Exhaust system and hangers
  • All wheel bearings
  • Front, and rear brakes and pipes
  • Park brake
  • All tyres for damage or wear

General
Check the following:

  • Front, rear lights and indicators
  • In- and outside mirrors
  • Check all wheel hardware
    • Spare wheel and lowering mechanism
    • Confirm if security socket is present
    • Re torque wheels
  • If number plates are intact and tightly secured
  • Tow bar and check trailer connection (if applicable)
  • If charging point / cigarette lighter is functional
  • If all seat belts are working
  • If interior lights are working
  • Check windshield for damage
  • Valid license disc
  • Wiper blades
  • All door hinges and locks
  • If all door window mechanisms are functional
  • Air conditioning working order
  • Interior heater
  • Radio
  • Are all gauges and warning lights working
  • Horn
  • Test if winch is working (if applicable)
  • Are jack and wheel spanners present

Test drive

  • Test if 4×4 high and low range is working
  • Test if 4wd system and diff locks are working
  • Test general engine performance
  • Test shocks / general road handling
  • Test brake performance
  • Check for any noise while driving
  • Test clutch performance
